Estimates- Entails disassembly and inspection of the unit. Diagnosing and troubleshooting the cause of failure, leak or other problems is then performed. The customer is then notified of the cost before any work is done. Estimates are "free" and if it is not to that persons liking, we will ship the turbo back "free of charge".
One thing we try to do for our customers is get the story behind the turbo. Such as, how the vehicle was running, was it smoking out the tail pipe, oil consumption, low boost and other scenarios that would help us better explain things to the customer so they will get a better understanding of how the turbo really works and how it may affect the performance of the vehicle.
We will allow the customer or mechanic a birds eye view of the parts that are in their turbo as they are taken apart. We do warn against disassembling the turbo before hand. Many damaging things can occur during an inexperienced disassembly.
Failure analysis- This portion is primarily the evaluation of damaged parts. Looking for scoring on bearing surfaces, damage to blade tips and seal locations. Burning and coking of the bearing surfaces. A thorough inspection can tell a lot about an engine and the drivers maintenance practices.
Troubleshooting- Finding the cause of failure and then giving the customer the information they need to prevent the damage or failure from occurring again is important.
